How to Get a Casino Hotel Room Upgrade Every Time

Room upgrades at casino hotels aren't luck — they're strategy. Properties have more flexibility than traditional hotels because gaming revenue subsidises room inventory. If you know how to play it, you can often land a better room without paying more.
First, join the loyalty program and use it. MGM Rewards Gold, Caesars Diamond, and similar tiers come with upgrade benefits. Even at the base tier, having a card signals you're a repeat customer. Second, book the lowest room category you'd accept. Upgrades are easier when there's room to move up. Booking a standard and asking for a strip view or high floor is more likely to succeed than booking a suite and hoping for a penthouse.
Third, timing matters. Check in during slower periods — weekdays, or early afternoon before the rush. Front desk agents have more flexibility when the property isn't sold out. Fourth, ask the right way. "Do you have any complimentary upgrades available?" is polite and direct. Mentioning a special occasion — anniversary, birthday — can help. So can being a loyalty member. Never demand; always ask.
Fifth, consider paid upgrades at check-in. Properties often offer discounted suite upgrades at the desk — cheaper than booking the suite in advance. If you're flexible, this can be a win. The key is treating the front desk as allies, not obstacles. A little courtesy goes a long way.
