Foxwoods vs Mohegan Sun — Which Connecticut Casino Resort Actually Wins?

Connecticut's two tribal casino resorts have been rivals for three decades. Foxwoods, operated by the Mashantucket Pequot, and Mohegan Sun, run by the Mohegan Tribe, sit just 15 minutes apart. Both draw millions of visitors from Boston, New York, and beyond. But which one actually wins?
Foxwoods has the scale. At over 9 million square feet, it's one of the largest casino complexes in the world. Six hotels, multiple casinos, a sprawling maze of restaurants and shops. The Grand Pequot Tower offers solid rooms at competitive rates. The Tanger Outlets and high-stakes baccarat pit attract different crowds. Foxwoods feels like a city — sometimes overwhelming, sometimes exhilarating.
Mohegan Sun is more cohesive. The design is tighter, with a central "Sun" atrium that ties everything together. The Earth, Sky, and Wind casinos flow logically. Mohegan Sun's hotel towers — the original and the newer Earth Tower — feel more modern than much of Foxwoods. The dining lineup, from Michael Jordan's Steak House to Todd English's Tuscany, punches above its weight for a regional property.
The verdict depends on what you want. Foxwoods wins on sheer variety and gaming floor size. Mohegan Sun wins on atmosphere, navigability, and a more polished overall experience. For a first-time visitor, we'd send you to Mohegan Sun. For a serious gambler who wants maximum options, Foxwoods. Both are worth a trip — and many locals hit both in a single weekend.
